Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva sponsored the resolution during the plenary session.

“I’ve been following this young lady’s career for years now, and it is so fulfilling to witness the culmination of all her hard work, dedication, and training with a grand slam championship at the tender age of 17,” Villanueva said during his sponsorship speech.

The majority leader noted the role of Eala’s family in her triumph.

“I believe, Mr. President, that her family’s active role since Day 1 has been her backbone in every smash she does inside the tennis court. Napakahalaga po ang papel ng pamilya, at higit pa rito, ang isang pamilya natin bilang lahing Pilipino sa pagsibol ng isang atletang kampeon!” said Villanueva.

He likewise pushed to support all athletes who aim to bring pride to the Philippines.

All senators were made co-authors of the resolution.

Following Eala’s Grand Slam singles victory, she will return to the professional circuit for the rest of the year.
