The Musée Picasso, housed in a beautiful hôtel de ville in Paris’ trendy Le Marais neighbourhood, is a museum of singular focus: the eminent Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso. An ongoing exhibit since mid-April, Maya Ruiz-Picasso: Daughter of Pablo, showcases the artworks of Picasso’s daughter, María de la Concepción (who answered only to the moniker Maya). The exhibit itself is a deeply personal insight into the Picasso family: it foils Maya’s personal development as an artist through her prints, sculptures, and paintings with a sharp presentation of Pablo’s view of his daughter through his own works either of or dedicated to her.

8. Explore Frida Kahlo: Beyond Appearances

Frida Kahlo just may be one of the most well-known and beloved female artists in the world. Her pieces evoke female strength and solitude; her range of colour and subject is simultaneously whimsical and tenacious. This autumn, the Palais Galliera seeks to exhibit—and celebrate—the lesser-known Kahlo with its retrospective on the artist, Frida Kahlo: Beyond Appearances. To create a thematic, visual narrative of the artist’s life, visitors will be able to explore items from Kahlo’s childhood home, the Casa Azul (which until recently had been placed under seal by Kahlo’s husband Diego Rivera), Kahlo’s collection of Tehuana dresses, pre-Columbian jewellery, as well as films and photographs of the artist. The exhibit will also showcase Kahlo’s influence on modern fashion, showing various esteemed designers’ contemporary collections inspired by the artist.

Where: Palais Galliera, 10 Avenue Pierre 1er de Serbie, 75116 Paris
When: Until 5 March 2023
